Multiplication Mats is an innovative workbook and set of color-coded flash cards. This learning tool provides the means for students to not only master memorization of the multiplication facts, but also to master the critically important underlying concepts of multiplication facts such as multiples, common multiples, and least common multiples. This program provides the school and home with the structure and support necessary for students to follow through and work on mastering the multiplication tables on a daily basis via a “tortoise over the hare” approach – 5 to 10 minutes a day over the course of an entire school year.

The Rectangle 150 Multiplication Mats is a study program students complete over the course of an entire year to gain a deep understanding of multiplication and to memorize the multiplication facts. This program takes a “tortoise over the hare” approach. A daily commitment throughout the school year of 5 to 10 minutes allows the student to build and shape a deep understanding of the big ideas of multiplication and to permanently retain memorization of the facts.
Many school systems throughout the world expect and help their students to memorize the multiplication facts by the end of grade 3 or grade 4. In the United States however, we often do not commit to the time-on-task at school or the follow through required to get the job done. Unfortunately, too many of our students — sometimes as much as 50% — enter grades 5 and 6 without their multiplication facts memorized. This limits a student’s ability to learn higher and more complex mathematics when they may otherwise be able to do so.
